Description and Characteristics

Ametrine is a bicolor variety of quartz that features zones of amethyst and citrine within a single crystal; it is found almost exclusively in hydrothermal deposits associated with limestone and dolomite. It belongs to the trigonal crystal system, and its dual coloration is due to a temperature gradient and different states of iron oxidation within its structure during crystal growth.
