Description and Characteristics

Aventurine is a variety of microcrystalline quartz characterised by the presence of lamellar inclusions that produce a shimmering effect known as aventurescence. It is usually found in metamorphic rocks and pegmatites. Its most common green colour is due to inclusions of fuchsite (a chromium-bearing mica), although it can also occur in reddish or brownish tones due to inclusions of hematite or goethite.
