Description and Characteristics

Beryl is a beryllium-aluminium cyclosilicate found predominantly in granitic pegmatites, metamorphic rocks (schists) and, occasionally, in hydrothermal veins. It belongs to the hexagonal crystal system and is renowned for forming perfect prismatic crystals that can range in length from millimetres to several metres. In its pure form, it is colourless (goshenite), but its structure allows for the substitution of ions, resulting in iconic colour varieties such as green (emerald), blue (aquamarine), pink (morganite) and yellow (heliodor).
