Description and Characteristics

Pink calcite is a variety of calcium carbonate that owes its colour to the presence of manganese in its structure. It is commonly found in hydrothermal deposits and sedimentary rocks. It belongs to the trigonal crystal system and is characterised by its smooth, opaque or translucent appearance. One of its most fascinating physical properties is that most specimens of pink calcite are intensely fluorescent under ultraviolet light, emitting a very striking neon pink glow.

Did you know...?

It is often confused with rhodochrosite, but pink calcite is usually paler and lacks the distinct zigzag-shaped white bands characteristic of the former. Furthermore, under a black light, pink calcite ‘glows’ much more intensely.

New-Age Properties

This stone is known as the "heart stone," with a much gentler energy than rose quartz, ideal for deep emotional healing.
