Description and Characteristics

Cinnabar is the mineral form of mercury sulphide and the world’s primary ore of this metal. It is typically found in low-temperature hydrothermal veins, near hot springs or areas of recent volcanic activity. It belongs to the trigonal crystal system. It is famous for its intense vermilion colour and extremely high density. Due to its mercury content, it is a toxic mineral if ingested, its dust is inhaled or it is exposed to heat, so it must be handled with care (wash your hands after touching it and do not ingest elixirs).
