Tiger's Eye
Main Deposits
South Africa (main global source), Australia, Myanmar, India, Namibia, and the USA
Description and Characteristics
Tiger's Eye is a yellow to golden-brown variety of cryptocrystalline quartz. It forms as a pseudomorph: it was originally a fibrous mineral called crocidolite (blue asbestos) that was replaced molecule by molecule by silica, while maintaining its fibrous structure. The iron present in the fibers oxidizes, resulting in its characteristic golden and honey tones. Its most distinctive feature is chatoyancy (cat-eye effect), which creates mobile, silky bands of light that seem to glow from within the stone. It is a durable, opaque gem with an unmistakable visual personality that makes it a worldwide favorite.

Did you know...?
In ancient Rome, soldiers wore Tiger's Eye engraved with protective symbols during battles, believing the stone granted them sharp vision and courage. A fascinating fact is that if you cut a block of Tiger's Eye across the fibers, you lose the "eye" effect and get a very different mottled pattern. Although it is a form of replaced asbestos, the finished stone is perfectly safe to handle; however, gemstone cutters must use protection to avoid inhaling dust during the grinding process.
New-Age Properties
Tiger's Eye is the stone of "balance and personal power." It combines Earth's energy with the Sun's, creating a high yet well-grounded vibratory state. It is linked to the solar plexus chakra, enhancing self-confidence, integrity, and the correct use of power. Spiritually, it is used as an amulet against curses and ill wishes. Mentally, it helps resolve dilemmas and internal conflicts, allowing one to distinguish between what is wanted and what is truly needed. It is ideal for people who have difficulty taking action or who feel scattered, as it focuses intention and stabilizes emotions.
